Calendar of Events
Wednesday, September 11 at 6:00 p.m. | The Real Sisters of Cleveland East
Home of Leslie Cooke ~ 25641 Edgecliff Drive, Euclid 44132 ~ 216.570.2869
Join us on the shores of Lake Erie as Leslie Cooke again welcomes us into her home to kick off the year. A favorite meeting for many sisters. We will reconnect with each other and welcome new members. We encourage each of you to reach out to a sister who hasn’t been with us recently and invite her to join you. And if that sister is you, come on down! There are no ‘rusty anchors,’ just women we will be thrilled to see. New to Cleveland? Please join us as we celebrate our sisterhood with fun and ritual.
This is our annual potluck. We will provide dessert and ask those whose last name ends in A-L to bring a favorite heavy appetizer and M-Z a salad.
No charge for dinner (since you’ll be doing the cooking!), but we encourage you to pay your dues tonight or in advance of the meeting. All women who have paid their dues will be entered into a raffle for a fun anchor surprise.
Tuesday, October 8 at 6 p.m. | Making It
Home of Allison Spinos ~ 381 Kirkshire Ct, Highland Hts 44143 ~ 440.840.0208
Make something pretty! Nancy Owens of BLING! will teach us how to create beautiful, bejeweled serving pieces. A perfect gift…or something special just for you. You can opt to decorate a spreader, small fork, small spoon, or a cake server. The smaller utensils are $5, the cake server $10. Beads are $5 for each project. It’s fun and the results are beautiful!
Wednesday, November 6 at 6 p.m. | Almost Human
Home of Amy Dolzine ~ 3121 Fairmount Blvd, Cleveland Hts 44118 ~ 216.470.1292
Artificial Intelligence is here. You’ve seen it in action in several arenas. (On Amazon for one; AI provides a synthesis of product reviews. Quite helpful!) But what are other applications? How does it affect me? Is it taking over the world? Is it really ‘almost human’?! These are common questions and concerns. Futurist and Social Scientist Stormy Sweitzer, PhD will provide an overview about AI and address common misconceptions.
Wednesday, December 4 at 6:30 p.m. | Master Chef Hannah: Home for the Holidays
Piccolo Restaurant ~ 1261 SOM Center Rd, Mayfield Hts 44124 ~ 440.646.1383
Our annual holiday gathering is one of our favorite events of the year. Join us for a wonderful evening of sisterhood as we break bread to celebrate the season. We will enjoy a delicious meal and even better company. Bring something with a holiday, wintery or DG-centric twist for the gift exchange. $15-$20 price range. People always ask for suggestions. Something you would like to receive is a good starting point...whatever strikes your fancy! The cost for dinner is $38.
**Please note the 6:30pm start time.**
Wednesday, January 8 at 6 p.m. | Tai Chi Chasers
Lotus Flower Yoga Collaborative ~ 2319 Lee Rd, Cleveland Hts 44118 ~ 216.371.9760
The perfect way to start the new year! Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art. While it was initially developed for combat and self-defense, it is now often referred to as ‘meditation in motion,’ providing benefits to mental and physical well-being. Steve Zimcosky will lead us through a beginner’s class. The gentle and deliberate movements of Tai Chi will help to center us, allowing us to bring a sense of peace into the new year. Join us! We will meet directly across the street from the studio at the Cleveland Heights Library for a box lunch (space not available at the studio). Parking is available behind the library as well as behind the studio. Following dinner, we will begin our lesson at 7pm. Dress comfortably! The fee for the class is $10.
Tuesday, February 4 at 6 p.m. | Unsolved Mysteries
Home of Cristen Kane ~ 6507 Derby Drive, Mayfield Village 44143 ~ 440.221.7247
The most storied crime fighter in Cleveland history is Eliot Ness and, interestingly, his most famous case remains unsolved. Rebecca McFarland, an internationally recognized expert on Eliot Ness, will join us to share stories of Cleveland in the 1930s, then the ‘most dangerous city in the country’, and Ness’ role in helping to turn that around. As Rebecca shares “his life is much more interesting than anything Hollywood has made up!”
Saturday, March 1 | Say Yes to the Anchor!
Anna, Eva, and Mary will be with us in spirit as we celebrate the founding of our beloved Fraternity. Celebrate with our sisters from Theta Beta and West Shore. We are all together because we each said YES TO THE ANCHOR! This is always a special day. Further details regarding time and location will follow.
Wednesday, April 9 at 6 p.m. | What Not to Wear
Home of Shelley Sedlacek ~ 7652 Manheim Court, Hudson 44236 ~ 330.414.5328
Colorist and styling consultant Carla Gasser of “Inside Out Beauty” will help us identify which colors show us in our best light. She will also share current styling trends (use of accessories and more) and will provide guidance about ‘what not to wear’!
Tuesday, May 6 at 6pm | The Home Edit
Home of Jean Kusar ~ 9833 Foxwood Trail, Kirtland 44094 ~ 440.227.1726
The most organized amongst us will benefit from this presentation. And the less organized? Well, this one’s for you! Organizing Guru and Professional Organizer Christina Hidek will share tips, tricks, and guidance on how to tame the clutter that sometimes overwhelms each of us. Her company, Streamlined Living, has worked with individuals throughout Northeast Ohio for over ten years with a focus on an individual’s needs at all ‘ages and stages.’
